Working with Colin Richards, we are building an experimental charcoal-fired kiln. The aim is to bisque and glaze fire in here, without the use of fossil fuel. The charcoal is home-made from locally and sustainably sourced wood.
The structure incorporates fire bricks and cob, with a dustbin lid, churn lid and coal scuttle flue. The assembly sits on a steel trolly with castors, so we can move it outside to fire up.

Trying out the rough design

Added glazed door, so reshaped the firebox and intake.

Building cob wall over the sand former, incorporating bricks as I go.
